Main Stay Cottages & RV Park
Main Stay Cottages & RV Park offer travelers an opportunity to enjoy modern cabins or premium RV Sites on the shore of Henry's Cove overlooking Cadillac Mountain and Acadia National Park. The 150 year-old boathouse cottage represents the passage of cultures connected to the sea and your hosts are the sixth generation to make their home on this land. Residents have long accessed the services available in Bar Harbor only a few minutes away by water, while enjoying the remoteness of this small fishing village. The Bar Harbor Ferry provides passenger service from our neighboring dock. The boathouse is one of the few remaining structures built at a time, when the water was the primary source of transportation and daily life evolved around the tides and the use of schooners to connect these homes on posts to the markets and resources of other villages. As roads joined the villages, Winter Harbor's summer colony developed around 1900 and paralleled the grandeur of Bar Harbor. Distance from major population centers has preserved the simplicity of a lifestyle of fishermen and their families over the decades.
Take a step back in time to the rhythm of the ocean, enjoying the cool breezes that have attracted a range of summer visitors for over a century.
A ferry to Bar Harbor leaves from the marina dock beside the cottages and several excellent restaurants are within walking distance. Your hosts, Roger and Pearl Barto reside in the family homestead behind the cottages, where their son carries on the family tradition of lobster fishing from his boat, the Aquadesiac.
The four cottages can accommodate sixteen people and the grounds are welcoming to family reunions, yet private for individual rentals. Each cottage has a private outside deck and access to a lawn area with picnic table and charcoal barbecue. The cottages require a 2-3 night minimum stay.
